Cannon Manufacturing was originally called Cannon Machine Works and was established in 1953 by Ernie Cannon in Vancouver, B.C. Canada. Previously, Ernie was an employee of Burnett Power Saw and Engineering Works - who were in the business of manufacturing chainsaws and repairing chainsaw bars.
The ambitious Ernie decided to strike out on his own and he opened Cannon Machine Works at 625 Alexander Street in Vancouver, B.C. His company repaired chainsaws bars like Ernie's previous employer. Before long Ernie's company started manufacturing its own Cannon Chainsaw Bar, plus chainsaw bars for the giant McCulloch Chainsaw Company
in Arizona, USA.
Eventually Cannon Machine Works sold one part of the company: the chainsaw bar business. That part of the company became Cannon Bar Works, which is still in business today, and continues to manufacture the best chainsaw bars in the world.
Cannon Machine Works continued its successful
manufacturing business, expanding into new and
different markets. The company is now known as
Cannon Manufacturing Ltd. and it is located
in a suburb of Vancouver.

Cannon Manufacturing focuses on custom and production machining, as well as designing and engineering its own products - such as their in-house designed tool: the Cannon Tree Planter.
The Cannon Tree Planter was originally designed to run an earth auger and drill holes to plant trees on a tree farm. Because this power tool uses a chainsaw as a drive-engine, it was a perfect match for Cannon Manufacturing, which already manufactured and repaired chainsaw saw bars.

Cannon Manufacturing is still a well-known and trusted name in the machining industry and machine repair business, as well as a respected in-house design and engineering company. Cannon has CNC and manual machine capabilities, as well as welding and surface grinding services. Cannon Manufacturing is located in the center of the greater Vancouver area.
Besides having a long list of established loyal customers who still get the same great service, Cannon Manufacturing has also gained the loyalty of many new customers in the marine, forest, mining and manufacturing sectors.
The future looks bright for Cannon Manufacturing because it is well poised to take advantage of the 8 billion dollar ship-building contract recently awarded to Sea Span Marine, a North Vancouver company. The contract was awarded in October 2011 and Sea Span will begin letting jobs in late 2012 or early 2013. The magnitude of this contract will keep all local machine shops busy, ensuring Cannon Manufacturing a steady supply of work for the next 10 years.
